Gifted product | Honest review

Finding school shoes that can survive a full school year isn’t always easy, especially if you have an active child.

Out of my four children, Lewis was by far the hardest on his school shoes. To this day, I’m still not entirely sure what he did to them, but getting through several pairs in a school year wasn’t unusual! Whether it was football at break time, climbing, running or simply being a typical energetic boy, his shoes always seemed to wear out long before he outgrew them.

So when we were invited to review a pair of Treads school shoes, I knew Lewis would be the perfect person to put them to the test.

One feature immediately caught my attention, Treads offered a 12-month guarantee, claiming their shoes were designed to withstand the everyday wear and tear of school life.

Why We Chose Treads School Shoes

Treads was created by a parent who understood the frustration of constantly replacing children’s school shoes.

Rather than focusing purely on appearance, the shoes were designed with durability and comfort in mind, featuring:

  • Reinforced heels and seams

  • Shock-absorbing insoles

  • Removable footbeds to allow room for growing feet

  • A smart leather finish suitable for school

  • A reassuring 12-month guarantee

As a parent who seemed to be forever buying replacement school shoes, this sounded exactly what we were looking for.

Our Choice

Treads offered several different styles, but Lewis has always preferred traditional lace-up shoes, so we chose the Turin Boys’ Black Leather Lace-Up School Shoe.

Ordering online can sometimes feel a little risky when it comes to children’s shoes, but Treads provided a clear measuring guide along with half sizes, making it much easier to choose the correct fit.

Thankfully, they fitted perfectly.

First Impressions

As soon as the shoes arrived, I could tell they were well made.

The leather felt good quality, the stitching looked strong and the overall construction felt much sturdier than many school shoes we’d bought previously.

Despite being built for durability, they still looked smart enough to wear for special occasions.

In fact, Lewis wore them not only to school every day but also to a family wedding, where they looked just as appropriate with his smart clothes.

Comfort and Everyday Wear

A shoe can be incredibly durable, but if it isn’t comfortable, children simply won’t want to wear it.

Thankfully, that wasn’t an issue.

Lewis found the shoes comfortable from the beginning and happily wore them throughout the school day without any complaints.

The cushioned insoles and supportive fit seemed well suited to long days on his feet.

Did They Last?

Durability was the biggest reason we wanted to try Treads.

Compared with many of the other school shoes Lewis had owned, these immediately felt much more robust.

The reinforced design gave me confidence they were built to cope with busy playgrounds, running around and everyday school life.

For parents who regularly find themselves replacing school shoes, that’s a huge advantage.

Anything We’d Improve?

If I could change one thing, I’d simply love to see an even wider range of styles available, particularly as every child has their own preferences when it comes to school shoes.

Final Thoughts

School shoes are one of those purchases that every parent hopes will last the year.

From our experience, Treads combined smart styling with practical durability, making them an excellent option for active children.

Lewis put them through exactly the sort of daily wear you’d expect from a busy schoolboy, and I was impressed by both the quality and comfort.

If you’re looking for durable boys’ school shoes that are built to last, I think Treads are well worth considering.
